This is a permanent part-time (0.2 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2020
South Newman Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Attendance Officer to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will assist the school community with processes that encourage non-attending and alienated students to participate regularly in school programs. This person will collaborate with school staff, parents, regional office and the community to identify student absenteeism and truancy. The successful applicant will make regular family contact, including phone calls and home visits and establish community links to monitor and engage identified students and their families.
The School Attendance Officer will also assist the school to develop and implement individual student attendance improvement plans. It would be highly desirable to have the ability to use a range of application software packages, particularly database, spreadsheets and word processing.

An Independent Public School located in the heart of the Pilbara region of Western Australia; we cater for an ever changing student population, reflective of the town's mining industry. We provide a quality education for students from over 20 nationalities, many of whom enrol at our school with English as their second language.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Sound knowledge of issues related to education within a local community.
- Capacity to work with individuals or small groups of students experiencing attendance-related difficulties.
- Ability to contribute towards resolving problems such as those affecting student attendance.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, particularly in a team environment.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
