Are you passionate about educating young minds?
Pia Wadjarri Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join their team in the role of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer.
To be successful in this role, you will be reliable and flexible, whilst providing support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/guardians, teachers, the school and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language and culture.
Additionally, the successful applicant will work under limited supervision and may be expected to participate within a team situation offering advice and expertise relating to their relevant area. Education outcomes are determined by the teacher, or other professionals, however you will be required to use your discretion in problem solving, decision making and choosing methods and processes to achieve these outcomes and maximise student's potential. You will be required to liaise with staff and parents/guardians in all student attendance matters.
Pia Wadjarri RCS is situated 70 kilometres from the Shire of Murchison, the only local government authority in Australia not centred in a town or regional centre. The closest regional centre is Geraldton which is situated 330 kilometres south west of Pia Wadjarri, travelling 220 kilometres on unsealed roads to Yalgoo or Mullewa before 'turning right' on bitumen roads that lead to Geraldton. Although all roads in the Murchison Area are well maintained by the shire, road conditions are subject to the weather with flash floods making it 4WD access only at certain times of the year.
The school is an integral part of the Pia Wadjarri Aboriginal Community Incorporated, providing education for the community and employment for some community members. Approximately 70 people make up the community and the school has an enrolment of up to 20 students. Seeking to retain a community focus the school invites elders and community members to participate in school activities. Cultural learning is imperative for all students.
