The successful applicant will have comprehensive Literacy and Numeracy curriculum knowledge and demonstrated ability implementing the Western Australian Curriculum in the early years. Applicants will have high expectations for student achievement, differentiate the curriculum to ensure all students are given every opportunity to experience success in their learning and engage with the National Quality Standards. In particular the successful applicant will need to have a thorough understanding of the Roebourne context, with the professional capacity to understand the role trauma plays in students’ lives. It is essential the applicant demonstrates the capacity to re-engage students who are severely disengaged.
The school is supported by the community, Aboriginal Corporations and other agencies. This includes mining, government departments, non-government organisations and other companies. The Roebourne Community has a strong arts base and this has influenced the educative community in developing strategic plans that are authentic, hands on and designed to engage with all students.
The school caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with approximately 99% of its cohort being Aboriginal. Although there are a number of language groups in Roebourne, the students generally come from three main language groups - the Ngarluma people (who are the traditional owners of the land), the Yindjibarndi people and the Banyjima people. The students speak a range of languages as well as Aboriginal English. Staff are expected to adopt and use differing strategies (such as EALD) in order to meet the specific needs of students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
