Are you a positive and talented teacher who strives to enhance student educational outcomes?
The School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) is seeking to establish a pool of energetic, motivated and aspirational Vision Education Program Visiting Teachers for appointments in Bunbury, Busselton and Albany to permanent, fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies (0.6-1.0FTE) which may arise during the 2020 school year. Placements can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
The School provides educational support for children with a hearing loss and/or vision impairment from birth to completion of school. SSEN: S is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and supports children in both public and non-government schools throughout Western Australia.
SSEN: S operates the Deaf Education and Vision Education Programs to support eligible children, their schools and families. SSEN: S employs teachers with specialist skills and other specialist staff such as educational audiologists, school psychologists, braille transcribers, deaf education officers and educational interpreters.
SSEN: S supports young children from birth to completion of school with the SSEN: S Early Childhood Service (0-4 years) or in their local schools with Vision Education Teacher support.
Visiting Teachers deliver targeted learning programs based on the Expanded Core Curriculum including areas such as compensatory or access skills, self-determination and assistive technology. Additionally, Visiting Teachers provide consulting support to schools and agencies in the provision of appropriate classroom teaching and learning adjustments.
Successful applicants will demonstrate a sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and best classroom practices to cater for the needs of individual students with a sensory disability. Additionally, a sound knowledge of developing and implementing personalised learning plans, assessment tools and reporting to parents and schools in a timely manner is necessary.

It is desirable that successful applicants may have recent experience supporting children with vision impairment and/or complex educational needs.
SSEN: S staff benefit from working in a cohesive and collaborative team environment, sharing common goals and resources in supporting students, schools and parents across a state-wide service. SSEN: S provides opportunities to work state-wide with the provision of current and regular professional learning events, an induction and mentoring program for new and returning staff, and the opportunity to work in an environment of best practice which encourages innovative input of ideas from staff.
We are seeking applicants who are willing to undertake regular professional development and who are interested in expanding their professional knowledge. It is highly desirable that applicants for all Vision Education Program Visiting Teacher positions hold a Graduate Certificate in Education or Master of Education with specialisation in vision impairment or are working towards this qualification.
