Appointment Pool
Legal Services are seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and committed Summons and Subpoena Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise in 2019 until the end of 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2019 until the end of 2020.
Legal Services currently have two fixed term part time positions or one full-time position available for filling. If two fixed term part time positions are preferred it will be part of a job share arrangement with the FTE flexible depending on the suitable applicants’ preference.
As Summons and Subpoena Officer you will ideally have experience in general administrative duties such as purchasing, processing accounts for payment and monitoring expenditure of the work unit. In addition to this, the successful applicant will have sound knowledge of legal documents and will have the ability independently and as part of a team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a high level of organisational skills.
The Legal Services Branch provides advice to the Department on legal and legislation matters. The Branch deals with, and on behalf of the Department, provides advice about sensitive legal issues, employment matters, complaints, administrative law, legislation, insurance and claims against the Department, contractual matters and various other matters affecting the operation, governance and legal rights of the Department.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in general administrative duties.
- Ability to use initiative and organisational skills, including time management.
- Well-developed verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with officers at all levels.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
