Appointment Pool
Malibu School is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistants – Special Needs for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the Semester 1, 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements up until the end of Term 2, 2020.
The purpose of Malibu School is to provide individualised and specialist educational outcomes for all students. This purpose is based on the belief that all children are individual learners with specific needs. As a Level 3 Education Assistant at Malibu School, in addition to demonstrating the ability in working with students with intellectual disabilities, you will also be required to adopt our whole school vision of ‘A future without limits” for all students. Any successful Education Assistant would be expected to fully embrace our school priorities especially the implementation of the Australian Curriculum across all learning areas for all students.
With this in mind Education Assistants are required to provide ongoing classroom and school wide support to assist in the development of teaching programs to deliver a rich curriculum and high quality educational programs. By supporting teachers, suitable applicants will be required to assist in the creation, delivery, assessment and reporting of individualised educational programs and will also be required to assist teachers in developing and promoting communication strategies along with modelling the use of AAC, assist in the creation and delivery of behaviour management plans and promote protective behaviours.
Malibu School is a specialist school for students in Early Childhood through to Year 12 which caters to students with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), challenging behaviours and/or autistic spectrum disorders. The purpose of Malibu School is to improve educational opportunities for all students with this purpose based on the belief that all children are individual learners with specific needs and have a ‘Future Without Limits.’.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
- Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
- Ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten Students are required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate III in Education Support (or equivalent), consistent with the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care, as determined by the Principal.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
