This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing October, 2019 with possible extension and/or permanency
The Finance and Commercial Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant - Budget and Resourcing Systems in the Financial Planning and Resourcing Directorate.
The successful applicant will maintain schools resourcing systems and budget management systems. You will also provide effective and efficient systems management to ensure the deployment of schools’ budgets. You will be required to undertake systems analysis and oversees system design changes to achieve efficiencies and assist deployment of schools resourcing.
As the successful Principal Consultant you will determine risks associated with budgeting and resourcing systems and their management and contributes to the development of reports to the Director and the Executive Director with respect to these risks. The role will require you to assist with monitoring and reporting on the development and maintenance of budgeting and resourcing systems programs. The successful applicant will research, prepare and review briefing papers, correspondence, confidential reports and parliamentary and ministerial responses on behalf of the Director.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Highly developed skills and experience in the management of the provision of user friendly and integrated financial management systems and substantial knowledge of contemporary financial management methodologies, systems and practices.
- Highly developed skills and experience in achieving outcomes and delivering quality projects and services consistent with customer needs and defined quality expectations, including timeliness.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to undertake productive consultation, collaboration and negotiation and to build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders on complex financial issues.
- Highly developed written communication skills including experience in preparing reports, briefing papers and responses to Senior Executive and/or Ministerial/Parliamentary requests.
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills to provide innovative solutions to complex problems.

Eligibility and Training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
