Kalamunda Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an exceptional individual to take on the role of Head of Learning Area - Arts and join the dedicated leadership team at Kalamunda Senior High School. As a school with a strong reputation in the Arts and hosting a Gifted and Talented Visual Arts program, this position will be highly sought after.
The successful applicant will have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the wider community. They will provide effective curriculum leadership in the Arts Learning area and contribute to the leadership of the school through its third IPS Business Plan cycle and as a school which is inclusive, innovative, high achieving and connected. In particular, they will be able to work effectively with and manage staff across a diverse learning area, having experience in analysing data and in leading improvement in student academic achievement.
The school offers a wide range of programs in the arts which cover Visual Art, Media, Photography, Music, Dance and Drama. The Gifted and Talented Visual Arts program has a long history in the school spanning nearly 40 years and complements the vibrant local arts community. The school also has a strong Music program which is dynamic and growing and covers a wide range of both contemporary and classical styles, including a range of junior and senior choirs, bands, string and percussion ensembles, and an orchestra. A specialist school based Performing Arts program was established in 2012 and is also growing from strength to strength. It incorporates Dance, Drama and Music through a Musical Theatre context and complements the programs offered in the other areas of the arts. The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a passion for the teaching and learning of the Arts.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
