This is a nineteen (19) month fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP with possible extension and/or permanency.
The Ministerial Liaison Officer will provide support as required in Ministerial Services Unit (MSU) teams for correspondence and briefing notes to cover periods of leave taken over the rest of 2019 and throughout 2020 by other MSU staff
The Ministerial Liaison Officer will manage requests from the Minister’s office, including coordinating responses to ministerial electronic requests, and undertaking quality assurance to ensure correspondence meets required guidelines in terms of style and formatting, while ensuring the delivery of quality and timely responses to Ministerial requests and the provision of quality advice and support to Department staff.
Responsibilities will require using the ministerial tracking system to register and assign documents such as ministerial correspondence, briefings and speaking points. The successful applicant will have opportunity to assist in providing training and support to Departmental staff required to use the ministerial tracking system.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of the State Government, Parliament and Cabinet, and the role of the Department of Education.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver responses within strict timelines.
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide quality advice, liaise effectively with staff at different levels in an organisation and work in a collaborative team environment.
- Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to identify problems and provide strategies to address them.
- Well-developed computing skills and an understanding of information systems.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver training to staff.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy; and
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
