Appointment Pool
The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate is seeking to establish a highly motivated and committed pool for the position of Principal Consultant – Primary (English) Curriculum and Assessment for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2019 and 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements up to the 31 December 2020
The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Principal Consultant – Primary (English) Curriculum and Assessment develops and reviews the P-6 English curriculum and assessment to support implementation of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline. They monitor and review the implementation and delivery of curriculum, standards, projects and programs, and implement moderation activities to ensure state-wide comparability of standards for the primary years of schooling.
The successful applicants will organise, facilitate and coordinate information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations and conduct teacher seminars as required. They will provide executive support for advisory committees, consultative groups and working parties. They will provide advice, correspondence and briefings to the Minister, the Board, systems, sector and the Executive Director, School Curriculum and Standards, as required.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, The Early Year Learning Framework, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership.

ELIGIBILITY and TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia ;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
