Manjimup Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an innovative and flexible leader to be appointed as the Manager of Student Services. The successful applicant will join our committed leadership team and work collaboratively with staff, students and the wider school community to provide educational leadership by developing and promoting the school vision and strategic direction. They will manage a team to provide a service that supports all students to learn and be the best they can.
The successful applicant will monitor behaviour and attendance, lead the student service team and support the work of Year Coordinators. This involves being organised and supporting policies and strategies that assist student engagement and learning. The ability to seek flexible solutions and maintain positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders is essential.
The successful applicant will support staff to improve their confidence and capacity to manage behaviour and implement the school policy. It includes parent liaison and managing consequences including the suspension of students where necessary. The role includes case management of the educational, social and emotional needs of students, particularly those at educational risk. This involves liaising with the principal, vice principal, year coordinators, teachers, members of the student services team, external agencies and parents.
Responsibility for coordinating the student executive is another aspect of the position. This involves developing student leadership and supporting them to be a proactive within the school and community.
Manjimup SHS is a Year 7 to 12 Independent Public School, a member of the Manjimup IPS Cluster and a previous winner of the Western Australian Secondary School of the Year. Our school has a friendly, positive and welcoming atmosphere and a committed and highly competent workforce.
Established in 1957, the school is recognised for its high achievement and flexible approach to education and training. We are the only Senior High School in the inland corridor of the Southwest Education Region and also draw on students from surrounding towns and districts. Manjimup is a short drive from Perth and is a regional growth centre. The school is part of the multi-purpose campus comprising Manjimup Primary School, Manjimup Education Support Centre, Manjimup Campus of South West Regional TAFE and we have a long standing productive partnership with Edith Cowan University.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
