Byford South East Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a vibrant, hardworking and dedicated person to join their leadership team as a Foundation Deputy Principal. The successful applicant will ideally display strong skills in curriculum, school operations, behaviour education and pastoral care. It is highly likely that the position will include a teaching component.
The school is working to establish strong relationships across the entire school community including staff, parents, students and outside agencies whilst promoting the school vision of ‘Building Brighter Futures Together”. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an ability to mentor, coach, guide and advise staff and students as well as work collaboratively with stakeholders to manage student behaviour based on a positive and educative mindset. It is imperative that applicants demonstrate the ability to develop strong relationships and an affinity with students, staff and parents in an open and approachable manner.
The Deputy Principal will provide instructional and curriculum leadership to embed evidence-based, whole-school approaches, including the development of robust plan-teach-assess cycles which encompass intentional differentiation. The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate expertise and leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of whole school plans that ensure students have the necessary skills to be successful at school. Well-developed skills and capabilities to respond strategically to contemporary research and initiatives that support the implementation of whole school approaches and connected practice will be considered in high regard, as will experience in coordinating and initiating innovative strategies for supporting students at educational risk.
To be successful in this role, a demonstrated ability to collaboratively cultivate and sustain a culture that promotes educational best practice in the team is highly desirable. It is therefore imperative that applicants demonstrate an ability to recognise, promote and build the leadership capacity of staff, students, parents and the community to enhance leadership density across the school community. Strong data analysis skills will support this position.
As a new school, Digital Technologies and ICT infrastructure and programs will grow rapidly and will need someone with practical knowledge of how an exemplary school should operate. Ideally the successful candidate will have ICT and Digital Technologies curriculum leadership and management experience to ensure that best practice is reflected in every classroom. This would include developing a cohesive, whole school approach promoting the SAMR model, to shape effective and safe use of technology across the school.
Byford South East PS will open its doors in 2020 catering for children K-6. The successful applicant will join an administration team that provides high quality leadership and sets high expectations for themselves and our staff. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
