The Statewide Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant in the Aboriginal Education Teaching and Learning Directorate.
We are seeking culturally responsive individuals with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of policy frameworks and issues affecting Aboriginal families and communities.
In this role you will contribute to the strategic direction and operations of the Directorate. You will provide leadership from an Aboriginal perspective, expert analysis and advice in relation to the Department’s strategic and system-wide policy objectives that impact outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people. You will be required to analyse Departmental, State and Commonwealth education and Aboriginal Affairs policy settings and advise on their implications for the Department and public schools.
You will also provide advice and guidance to stakeholders including schools and central and regional staff, to support the provision of culturally responsive approaches to the design and delivery of services to, and support for, Aboriginal students, their families and communities. Central to this, is advice and guidance to support implementation of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary policy frameworks and issues affecting Aboriginal communities and families.
- high-level leadership skills in building organisational capacity to engage with Aboriginal students, their families and communities.
- high-level oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build and sustain productive working relationships within and between internal and external stakeholders, including community and organisational networks.
- highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of Ministerial responses, briefing notes, reports, policies and guidelines.
- highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to develop, implement, coordinate, monitor and apply strategic thinking to achieve outcomes.
- highly developed strategic planning skills and experience in managing projects and ability to coordinate and deliver strategic outcomes in an educational setting.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
