Merriwa Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and energetic Administration Assistant to join their friendly team.
The Administration Assistant directly assists the Principal and Manager Corporate Services in the administrative functions of the school, including but not limited to, assistant to the Independent Public School (IPS) Board.
This school is a vibrant, inclusive workplace, where the focus is on making a difference for our students. This is a low socio economic school, where everyone works together to ensure that the children receive the best possible education.
Ideally the successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of an IPS Board, including but not limited to the implementation of policy, procedures and practices. As an Administration Assistant you will be able to coordinate the administrative functions of an IPS school, administer the operation of school databases, records and information systems and prepare, research and extract data for departmental, school and annual reports.
Merriwa Primary School is an Independent Public School which shares its site with Merriwa Education Support Centre catering for students in surrounding suburbs. The current student population is approximately 428 students.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Sound written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise confidentiality and liaise effectively with individuals at all levels
- Sound knowledge and experience in administrative and clerical functions
- Well-developed computer skills, including experience in using a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets, word processing and web maintenance.
- Initiative and sound organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and finalise task with minimal supervision and work part as a team.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- and complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
