The Statewide Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Program Consultant in the Early Childhood Education branch for its KindiLink Project.
The Department is the lead government agency on the early years, which currently has a high government and community profile. The team is very supportive of each other, and works on diverse State and national projects.
Working in a small team, this position will assist implementation of KindiLink, located at 38 public school sites, whereby early childhood teachers and Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs), provide six hours per week of play and learn supported playgroup sessions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are not old enough to enrol in school, and their parent/s caregiver/s. A key aim of KindiLink is to ensure participating children are afforded the best possible start to Kindergarten and full-time schooling.
The Program Consultant will administer elements of the project, including data analysis, professional learning, and support and guidance for KindiLink teachers and AIEOs. This will include on-site visits during the year, requiring some intra-state travel.
Suitable applicants will be collaborative team members who can work independently, as well as within and across teams. Crucial to the role is the ability to be culturally responsive, and work with early childhood teachers and alongside Aboriginal people, knowledge of play-based learning, and the ability to impart this knowledge to KindiLink teachers and AIEOs.
For this important role, strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed, as are organisational skills, with the ability to be flexible when required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Well-developed knowledge and understanding of current policies and initiatives associated with early childhood education, including contemporary curriculum, pedagogical and assessment.
- Cultural responsive practices that focus on improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and their families.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefings and general correspondence.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with senior officers and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve required objectives.
- Knowledge, skills and practice in the development and presentation of professional learning for early childhood education matters.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia or extensive equivalent experience;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
