The Home Island School Campus context of the Cocos Islands District High School is within the broader Western Australian Education system. The Island faces educational challenges; however we have high expectations for all our students. Almost all of the resident population on Home Island are Cocos Malay, and they are EAL/D learners. Factors such as the remoteness of the community, the uniqueness of the first language/dialect spoken, culture and turnover of staff in the school necessitates whole school programs to be followed through succession planning.
Cocos Islands District High School Home Island Campus uses a multi-sensory, explicit teaching model. We follow the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, version 8.1 as a guide for teachers. Students should be taught in accordance with their developmental skills, rather than strictly following these guidelines. Suitable applicants will be offered professional learning opportunities prior to the start of the 2020 academic year.
