Byford Secondary College (SC) are seeking to establish a pool of Teachers – Career and Vocational Education, for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
We are looking for a Career and Vocational Education Teachers who are committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. The suitable applicants will work as part of a highly committed and dedicated team supporting students in their post-secondary transition to education, training or employment, and in the successful promotion of the value of VET and endorsed programs with staff, students and parents.
Strong organisational skills and knowledge of career education, WACE requirements, in particular VET pathways and current industry requirements will be highly regarded. An understanding of the local community context will also be advantageous.
Suitable applicants will have a willingness to take on responsibility for aspects of VET/Career Education and be able to forge links with local businesses, industry and Recognised Training Organisations (RTO) including South Metropolitan TAFE. Suitable applicants will be highly organised and will assist the VET Leader in the oversight of VET/Endorsed Course enrolments, resulting and the meeting of deadlines with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), RTOs and school wide processes. In addition, you will have the skill and experience to support and monitor the performance of teachers in relation to the delivery of VET and Careers programs, working closely with members of the LA Teams in relation to the Career Pathways Programs across Years 9 to 12. You will also be able to use your extensive interpersonal skills and knowledge to counsel students and communicate effectively with staff, parents and the wider community including Workplace Learning employers.
To be considered suitable, you will be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as demonstrating an engaging and energetic teaching style. You will reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available within the College, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve to their highest potential. With effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with students, teachers and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.
As Teacher – Career and Vocational Education, will have a teaching component between 0.6 and 0.8 Full Time Equivalent (FTE), which may include English, Mathematics, Career and Enterprise, and Work Placement supervision for your class. A Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and the ability to deliver a Certificate course would be an advantage.
Byford SC is an Independent Public School located on Abernethy Road in Byford approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD. Our College provides for the secondary education needs of students from Byford and the surrounding communities. Byford SC has become a focal point for secondary education provision for students with disabilities with our inclusion facilities. The College’s motto, ‘Aspire to Excellence’ clearly articulates our vision of being the secondary school of choice for the local community which provides a comprehensive suite of subjects from Years 7 to 12.
Byford SC has an established Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, using iPads, and has a strong focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Suitable applicants will be required to embrace 21st century learning practices and participate in leading innovation and change to pedagogy. The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia (UWA). This ‘Aspire’ program provides these students with access to the university's staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience. Teachers with a demonstrated ability to effectively differentiate instruction to improve student outcomes and challenge students to achieve at the highest level would be highly regarded.
The College invites any interested applicants to attend a Presentation and College Tour for prospective staff on Wednesday August 21 st from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, where members of the School Leadership Team will provide an information session on teaching at the College.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
