Mindarie Senior College (SC) is seeking an experienced leader who will work closely with the College Executive and Leadership Team in the role of Manager - Student Services. This is a full-time, non-teaching position.
The Manager - Student Services will provide a key role in providing educational leadership and coordination in the development of staff to establish and maintain a culture of high performance and high care. In this role, you will be required to work collaboratively with the Principal and Associate Principals, members of the Leadership Team, specifically the Manager of Student Studies and Student Services team, staff, students and the community.
The successful applicant will investigate and review current practices with a view to continual improvement towards a culture of ongoing best practice. You will work closely with the College Leadership team to implement the college’s business plan, in particular, the development and implementation of strategies to maximise student attendance, participation, achievement and retention in line with the Strategic Plan for WA Public Schools and liaison with community and government agencies to support Students at Education Risk (SAER).
It is highly desirable that the successful applicant have a proven knowledge and understanding of the many and varied issues that face youth today and be committed to the values espoused in the college ethos and models these to the college community. An ability to develop and lead staff across the college to implement the Mentor Program will be a key requirement of this position. This program is one of the main strategies to maximise early intervention and involves all staff working directly with an allocated number of individual students on a regular basis.
The students of Mindarie Senior College come from a number of schools, from a wide geographical area and a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds. A key responsibility is to coordinate strategies that assist student transition to the College and to develop and organise activities that will result in a sense of belonging and a positive spirit at the College. The Manager is responsible for implementing strategies that will enable students to have a real input into college life including overseeing major events such as the College Ball, Colours Award evenings, Rewards Camp and Presentation Ceremony.
To develop a positive tone at the College, the Manager of Student Services will be responsible for coordinating the Good Standing Policy. The Manager of Student Services has a central role in leading and coordinating the behaviour management plan at the College. This policy needs to be maintained as an ongoing strategy utilising best practice in conjunction with staff, students and parents. The next College Business Plan will have a specific target relating to mental health and wellbeing and a background in this area would be an advantage. Finally, the Manager of Student Services will be responsible for the Performance Management and coordination of the Student Services team and other allocated staff.
Mindarie SC is a multi-award winning, state of the art educational facility for students in Years 11 and 12. It has sweeping ocean views and is located 39 kilometres from Perth on the northern coastal corridor. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
