This is a permanent part-time (0.9FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2019.
John Curtin College of The Arts is seeking an organised and efficient Library Officer to join their friendly and enthusiastic team.
The suitable applicant will supervise day-to-day operations of the library and provision of reference, information and associated services to teaching staff and students. They will conduct library skills training and demonstrate the use of library equipment with both staff and students. It would be advantageous for the applicant to be experienced and knowledgeable in the school’s library system, ‘Smart Library’ which ensures that library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students, staff and parents at all times. Knowledge and use of the ‘Smart Library’ is desirable for this position, as this program underpins the school’s borrowing processes and promotion of comprehension and reading skills.
The suitable applicant will be working with our dedicated staff to build and foster a positive school community. You will be creating a positive and engaging environment whilst enhancing our current library facilities. It is desirable that the suitable applicant demonstrate a warm and caring disposition towards students, be flexible to meet the needs of the school, be open to change and willing to develop and implement new and innovative ideas.
John Curtin College Of The Arts is the premier school for gifted Arts students in Western Australia. The college has been offering programs for gifted and talented students since 1973. The college provides a specialised differentiated curriculum for gifted and talented Arts students and those identified as academically talented, providing them with opportunities for extension, enrichment and acceleration. In order to cater for the academic needs of highly able students, the college provides Academic Excellence Programs in humanities, mathematics and science. Students have the advantage of being able to interact with peers across the Arts and work in an Arts environment that provides many opportunities to learn.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing.
- Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
