Belridge Secondary College (SC) is seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to join the leadership team from Term 1, 2020.
The Head of Learning Area (HOLA) HASS will have a significant leadership role at a learning area and senior management level. The successful applicant will have an unrelenting focus on student success and continued school improvement. They will have the personal attributes that bring people together to enhance the current culture of, and commitment to, excellence in teaching.
The successful applicant will have a focus on maintaining the success the team has had, including excellence in ATAR results. A leadership approach that recognises and acknowledges past success, and is able to build on the solid foundations that are already in place will be critical in this role. As a leader you will make ethical decisions, where all stakeholders are considered and involved in decision making processes. The successful applicant will be open to and actively respond to feedback.
The HOLA HASS is a member of our schools Senior Management Group (SMG) and this group has an active and important role in guiding the direction of our school, leading whole school initiatives and responding to priorities in a timely and pro-active manner. Innovative thinking and the ability to find new solutions to challenges are also priorities of the role. The successful applicant will work closely and collaboratively with the executive team.
Belridge SC is co-located with Belridge Secondary Education Support Centre. Two schools, one community is the mantra of this well developed and respected partnership. Students from BSEC regularly integrate into school activities and learning programs.
This position has a 0.7FTE teaching role.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
