Champion Bay Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated professional to the position of Associate Principal.
As Associate Principal, you will be responsible for leading and building the capacity of our extensive Student Services team, enhancing our Positive Behaviour Support focus, providing whole school direction for our attendance initiative and leading data informed positive interventions for student and community well-being.
The suitable applicant will be dynamic, organised and committed with a passion for Student Services and leading by example. Previous experience in leadership roles within a school context is highly desirable for the role, as is an understanding of the School Business Plan. The successful applicant will need to build community partnerships and represent the school within the community on a regular basis, showing evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills.
This is a unique opportunity as Champion Bay SHS moves towards a full Years 7-12 cohort in 2021.This outstanding opportunity will allow for reflection, action and celebration as the school engages with the community to continue the development of our new identity.
Our school has a strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus enhancing the delivery of curriculum through the provision of rich professional learning for teachers and developing classroom learning experiences as the student population changes. You will be expected to support student engagement as they develop ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in the learning contexts where students use available technology.
In collaboration with the Principal and other executive team members, the Associate Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by helping develop and promote the school values, vision and priorities and encouraging school staff, volunteers for the community and others to share ownership of the direction of the school.
The suitable applicant will have a significant role in the daily management of staff and student well-being, using your professional knowledge and understandings to promote effective classroom management skills and pastoral care practices within the school and use effective change management strategies to assist the school to further develop opportunities for improved student outcomes.
In this role, you will assist in the development of school planning and utilise information systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting on school performance. Additionally, you will establish and manage administrative and operational systems in the relevant areas of responsibility in order to ensure the effective operation of the school and assist the Principal to ensure compliance of relevant legislation, Departmental policies and procedures and the management of financial, physical and human resources.
Ideally, the suitable applicant will be able to demonstrate that they can effectively operate within a focussed and distributed leadership team environment and have versatility to take on areas under any of the Associate Principal’s portfolios should it be deemed necessary by the Principal.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
