Looking for a short-term contract or wanting to get back into planning? This could be the opportunity you've been waiting for

Like many organisations, the Department is often faced with temporary skills shortages. We're hoping to access members of the planning community with significant experience and skills who may not be needing permanent employment, and are possibly returning to work after an extended break. We are hoping to meet our shared needs with a range of temporary placements best suited to experienced planners.

If you have worked as a planner in a senior position in the past, or have a broad range of experience in planning matters we would love to hear from you.

Opportunities through this process will not exceed 6 months at any given time and you may be considered for employment within the next 2 years. There are always temporary vacancies in the Department, and we are hoping to fill some of the gaps by the use of fixed term contracts. Presently, there are various planning positions that may suit you, including:

  • Planning Officers SCL1 ($67,167 to $91,345)
  • Senior Planning Officers, SCL2/3 ($93,548 - $119,969)
  • Planning Managers / Principal Planning Officers, SCL4 ($121,885 - $132,636)

The Department is not offering to employ contractors via an hourly rate, only through fixed term employment contracts as a direct employee of the Department. If you have other part-time employment in the planning industry, please indicate how potential conflicts of interest with other employers would be managed.

If you would like to be considered for these opportunities, you will be required to:

  • have a degree in urban and regional planning; and
  • Submit a comprehensive CV outlining your extensive experience in a planning or related environment, including a depth and breadth of examples that could demonstrate deep understanding of planning principles and practice, and ability to interpret and apply legislation in the planning environment.

These positions can only be filled by qualified urban and regional planners, so please do not apply if you are not suitably qualified.

If you would like to know more, please contact either Cath Meaghan, Planning Director on 08 6551 9362 or Ashley Randell, Planning Director on 6551 9329 to discuss the role in further detail (please don’t send your CV or seek assistance with lodging your CV).

There is no job description form to accompany this, no responses to selection criteria are required, nor will any further assessment be undertaken. Submission of your CV will allow the Department to register your interest, and recruiters may identity suitability for the short-term opportunities as they arise.

Please ensure you have saved your documents in MS Word (.doc files only) or PDF format and have allowed plenty of time to submit your application, as late, emailed and proforma applications will not be accepted.

The Department's values are an integral part of how we do business and we expect all successful candidates to be capable of operating in line with these beliefs. Successful candidates would also need to operate within the Public Sector's Code of Ethics.

Our Values: Integrity – Respect – Collaboration – Professionalism – Innovation

Public Sector Code of Ethics: Personal Integrity – Relationships with others - Accountability

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages Aboriginal Australians, young people, people with disabilities, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply for positions within our agency.
