The School

John Butler Primary College (PC) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Support Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

John Butler PC caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, in the Northern suburb of Butler. Opening in 2014, the college is of a modern and contemporary design, including purpose-built specialist facilities for students with disability. The innovative college model, which integrates a regular Primary Education Program and a dedicated Education Support Program for students with disability in one school, provides an inclusive and tailored learning experience to support students of all abilities to achieve their personal best. 

The Education Support Program is highly specialised and aligned with effective, contemporary pedagogy for students with a range of cognitive, developmental, physical, sensory, and social/emotional needs.

The Role

Suitable applicants should assist in the provision of a specialist education program, tailored to the individual needs of students with disability in one of our education support classes. They will ideally deliver differentiated teaching and structured learning environments in which the required instructional, curriculum and environmental adjustments support all students to achieve to their potential.

Suitable applicants should possess a deep knowledge of pedagogy specific to students with disability. They should be able to describe effective strategies to engage and achieve high-quality outcomes for students with a range of disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, cognitive disability and for students with social-emotional and behavioural needs. The use of modified assessment and fine-grained data to inform the ongoing development of targeted intervention and teaching and learning programs is also valued. 

Suitable applicants should also possess knowledge of high-level positive behaviour support strategies and can develop individualised behaviour support plans for students. Suitable applicants should display effective leadership attributes and skills to manage and lead a team of Education Assistants and/or teams outside of the classroom.
