ChemCentre is Western Australia’s leading chemical and forensic service provider. ChemCentre provides a comprehensive range of scientific services, working with a wide range of clients including Government Agencies, universities, environmental consultants, primary producers, exporters, retailers and the general public. Through the provision of chemical information, advice and analytical services, ChemCentre also mitigates risks to Government, protects the community and environment, and supports sustainable development.

The Research and Innovation Section is responsible for the identification, initiation and development of Research and Innovation projects which address ChemCentre’s legislated mandate and commercial objectives. The section undertakes research to better define/address chemical related risks to government and industry which in turn informs government client risk management and policy development options and industry investment and planning decisions. The section also provides specialist scientific expertise pertinent to ChemCentre’s scientific and commercial needs.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Research and Innovation, you will lead and deliver complex, multidisciplinary research projects while contributing to ChemCentre's reputation as an independent and trusted scientific authority.

The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership, manage collaborative and externally funded projects, and build strong partnerships across industry, government and academia. You will apply advanced expertise in mining and minerals-related environmental chemistry, including environmental risk assessment, metalliferous and acid rock drainage, soil chemistry and leaching processes.

In this role, you build and lead effective high performing team, communicate effectively and will have highly developed stakeholder management skills to provide expert advise on characterisation, assessment and reuse of mine and industrial byproducts to support circular economy outcomes and infrastructure sustainability

This position is a Full-time position offered on a Fixed Term Contract for two (2) years, with the possibility for extension or permanency in the future.

Suitable applicants may be considered for like positions within 12 months from the date of finalisation of the selection process.

The position is located in Building 500, Resources and Chemistry Precinct, Manning Road, Bentley.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a fixed-term appointment, it is essential to have documentary evidence of your entitlements to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract. To be eligible for a permanent position, Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is essential.

ChemCentre does not currently participate in employer visa sponsorship arrangements.

Prior to commencing employment, a National Police Clearance and Fitness for Work (alcohol and drug testing) will be required for a successful applicant.
