The Midwest Region extends along the coast from Lancelin in the south to north of Carnarvon then inland past Meekatharra. The regional headquarters is in Geraldton. District offices are located at Geraldton, Jurien Bay and Denham, this role supports the delivery of Joint Management across the Yamatji Nation Conservation Estate, working closely to support the advice and direction the Yamatji Nation Joint Management Body.
We are currently seeking a Project Officer – Yamatji Nation Joint Management to join our team.
Under the limited direction of the Regional Leader Joint Management, this position:
- Leads and coordinates the establishment of effective liaison and communication with the Yamatji Traditional Owner groups in collaboration with Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation (YSRC), other agencies, community groups and special interest groups to promote the objectives of joint management of the Yamatji Conservation Estate.
- Working in close collaboration with the Murchison and Turquoise Coast Districts and Midwest and Wheatbelt Region program leaders and the Aboriginal Partnerships Branch, supports the implementation of the Yamatji Nation Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) as it relates to the Yamatji Conservation Estate.
- Provides support to managers and Traditional Owners on issues relating to the management of the Yamatji Conservation Estate, Aboriginal heritage sites and the protection of Aboriginal culture and heritage.
- Responsible for program budget, business plans, training support and contributes to management planning in relation to joint management activities and initiatives, as it related to the Yamatji Conservation Estate.
- Works closely with the Regional Leader Joint Management as required to support and improve joint management initiatives across the region.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.
- Evidence of highly developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in effectively negotiating, communicating and liaising with Aboriginal people, the community, media, and special interest groups.
- Evidence of ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to deliver native title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation, or collaborative arrangements.
- An understanding of the issues involved in managing natural areas for cultural, biodiversity, recreation, education and tourism values in a joint management context.
