Shape the reliability, performance and evolution of the Geological Survey's geoscience platforms and services.

The role

As the Manager Geoscience Systems Support you will lead a specialist team responsible for the performance, reliability and continuous improvement of the Geological Survey's geoscience systems. You will provide technical and people leadership, drive platform enhancements across desktop, web, cloud and data environments, and partner with stakeholders to deliver innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Drawing on your experience leading complex IT support and systems administration functions, you will play a key role in shaping the future of geoscience technology services, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable and aligned with strategic business priorities.

Your leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, together with your experience managing enterprise applications and technology services, will be key to your success in this role.

You will bring to the team your expertise in leading technical specialists, delivering system improvements and managing complex technology environments, along with your ability to influence outcomes, build strong partnerships and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 24 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.

Should a qualification be required for this position, applicants must provide their certification and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).

To work for DMPE, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, DMPE will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.

How to apply

We ask for you to provide a detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than two (2) pages, addressing the following role specific requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or extensive experience in a related field.
  • Experience supporting geoscience, spatial, scientific or environmental information systems is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience leading IT systems support and administration functions, including oversight of databases, desktop technologies, cloud services, spatial platforms and geoscience applications, with sound knowledge of ITIL and project delivery methodologies.
