DFES are looking for a qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic.
Permanent Appointment
About the Role
We are looking for a committed Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Fleet and Appliance team who ensure our fire trucks and appliances are kept in safe working order so our firefighters can attend emergency incidents and keep the community safe.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Service, repair and maintain firefighting and emergency vehicles, equipment such as aerial appliances and hand-held firefighting equipment.
- Provide technical advice and training to ensure the safety of staff and the community.
- Undertake paid, on-the-job training.
- Ensure compliance documentation and record keeping such as worksheets, inspection forms and fault reports are completed accurately and timely.

Skills and Requirements
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
- Possession of a current unrestricted heavy rigid (HR) licence which must remain valid for the duration of employment.
- Strong safety focus with the ability to work in a team environment.
- A committed and driven attitude and strong work ethic.
- Exceptional diagnostic & troubleshooting/interpretive skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.

National Police Certificate
A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.
Choice of Super
The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986, prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, only have the following two options:
- Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account; or
- Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).
Those appointed on a fixed term contract do have choice of super, however if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one on the two options listed above.
