Kent Street SHS is an Independent Public School located within 5 kilometres of the Perth CBD. We cater for a diverse clientele from across WA (Western Australia) who travel great distances or reside at the Rotary Residential College located on our site to engage in our approved specialist programs. We also work as part of the Curtin Education Community to actively engage our local primary schools in the Victoria Park area. The Role
Kent Street SHS is ideally seeking a highly motivated, energetic and innovative Head of Learning Area (HoLA) – English to provide exemplary team leadership to maximise outcomes for all students. The successful applicant would provide purposeful and focused leadership to the English team as well as establish accountability for the effective daily management of the English learning area. With the ability to lead change and innovation, you will ideally use evidence-based data to inform all decision making.
The successful applicant would be responsible for the management of a collaborative and innovative team. You should display a high level of understanding of the Australian Professional Teacher and Leadership Standards, the Western Australian curriculum, and innovative practice in the teaching of English.
As the successful applicant, you should lead continuous improvement through strategic, proactive, and supportive leadership. You would be responsible for analysing performance data within the English learning area and using this information to develop and implement strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning outcomes. These plans should align with school priorities while addressing the specific needs of the learning area.
The successful applicant should have highly effective interpersonal skills that will enable them to lead the implementation of contemporary pedagogies focused on fostering critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and independent learning. Through expert curriculum leadership and instructional strategies, you will ideally ensure all teachers deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs that meet the individual needs of students through problem-based learning, curiosity, and deep learning pedagogies.
The successful applicant should support the implementation of the school’s business plan, work and teach in a team environment, be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence-based approach to teaching. As part of their standard practice, HoLA's should embrace opportunities to reflect on and assess the effectiveness of their teaching practices using a variety of methods available within the school. We are ideally seeking a HoLA that will have a growth mindset and a desire for continuous improvement.
Finally, you would place high emphasis on parent partnerships and desires to communicate with parents regularly throughout the year. We are ideally seeking highly organised people who have good communication skills, are solution focussed and want to contribute to the entire school community.
