The Role

Woodvale PS is seeking dedicated Education Assistant – Special Needs applicants who are focused on having high expectations, being collaborative and student-focused and using evidence-based approaches to achieve quality outcomes for our students.

As an Education Assistant - Special Needs, you will be a highly valued colleague at our school. You will perform tasks that require discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher. Suitable applicants will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, implement individual or small group programs or demonstrations and be able to provide valuable feedback to support student learning. They should be able to support programs relevant to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Physical Disability (PD), mental health and behavioural needs.

Suitable applicants will ideally possess a well-developed interpersonal acumen, be resilient, trustworthy and demonstrate high levels of self-awareness. They will use these skills to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students and create a welcoming and vibrant environment for students and families.

Eligibility

• consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
