The Role

As Special Needs Education Assistants, suitable applicants should provide feedback when asked on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. Previous experience in working with students with Autism and trauma is highly desirable. Ideally, suitable applicants will be empathetic and flexible.

As Special Needs Education Assistants, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate positively with the teacher to create and maintain an engaging, challenging, and supportive education program to meet the specific needs of the student, is highly desirable. Suitable applicants will, under teacher direction, assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, implement individual or small group programs or demonstrations and be able to provide valuable feedback to support student learning. They should be able to support programs relevant to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Physical Disability (PD), mental health and behavioural needs.

Suitable applicants should assist with the preparation, modification, and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials, and resources, for use in classes, displays and demonstration, and assisting the teacher with clean and safe storage of items after classes and activities. The Special Needs Education Assistant supports the teacher with the care and supervision of students in out-of-class activities and on school excursions.   • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
