The Role

As an Education Assistant - Special Needs, you should assist teachers with providing support for students with disabilities. You should assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations.

Suitable applicants will ideally possess knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a mainstream setting. Suitable applicants will ideally have strong knowledge of strategies to assist students with a range of disabilities. They should work under general supervision and autonomously and will be required to contribute advice and expertise, actively collaborating with colleagues to support student and whole school achievement. They will ideally be able to display initiative, flexibility, and adaptability to work across a range of year levels with multiple students.

It is highly desirable to work in an environment characterised by whole school approaches; a strong commitment to professional learning; working in teams. Suitable applicants should also be committed to assisting teachers to implement instructional skills and strategies that maximise students’ engagement in their learning. Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong interpersonal acumen to work collaboratively with families and external providers.
