A highly accomplished public sector leader with a passion for equality is sought for the position of Commissioner for Equal Opportunity

The office of the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity, Equal Opportunity Commission is established by the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (the Act). The Commissioner is the Chief Executive Officer of the Equal Opportunity Commission.

The Commission for Equal Opportunity is the lead organisation in Western Australia for investigating and resolving complaints of unlawful discrimination, and providing information, education, and training about discrimination and equal opportunity.

The Commission’s mission is to lead in the elimination of discrimination and build a community that reflects and promotes equality of opportunity and human rights through raising awareness and providing a means of redress to individuals who allege unlawful discrimination.

The Commissioner leads investigations, research and inquiries in relation to discrimination and is responsible for developing programs and policies aimed at eradicating discrimination. The Commissioner champions improvements in equality through engagement, advice and assistance. The specific functions of the Commissioner are outlined in s.80 of the Act.

This is a fixed term position for up to 7 years with a competitive remuneration package, including a salary of $299,118, a motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance, plus superannuation.
