Conditions
This is a recruitment pool for fixed term full time or part time, permanent full time or part time or casual appointments. Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. The pool will run for a period of 18 months from the date this process is finalised.
The Library is subject to a 7 day rotating roster including weekends and evenings.
A current (within 6 months) National Police (Clearance) Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department of Culture and the Arts Police Record Screening Policy.

This position is located in central Perth within the Cultural Centre hub close to the bustling café, tourist and shopping districts.
About the role
This position is in the Liaison, Acquisition and Description (LAD) team, within the Collection Services Directorate. This team has responsibility for collection development, acquisition and description of State Library resources, including those relating to Western Australia’s people, places, history and heritage, the State Library’s general reference collections, and resources in public libraries.
Librarians in the LAD team work with a broad range of physical and digital library materials, including original materials such as photographs, archives, manuscripts, and oral histories in both physical and digital formats; and published materials including printed books and serials, music, film and video, maps, ephemera, e-books and subscription databases.
Specific responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Appraising, arranging, describing and cataloguing both published and archival materials to enable efficient management, discovery and access for library clients.
- Assisting in developing and documenting resource description and access standards to all formats, including copy-cataloguing, record selection and acceptance guidelines, access rights and restrictions.
- Coordinating access to electronic information resources, both through the State Library and throughout the state-wide public library network.
- Coordinating ordering, receipt, payment, processing and distribution of resources for the State Library, including liaising with library suppliers and monitoring expenditure.
- Maintaining consistency and accuracy of data in the library management system.
