JOB DESCRIPTION
: Polling place employment for the 9 March 2013 State General Election.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in assisting the Western Australian Electoral Commission to conduct the forthcoming State Election. As a member of a polling place team you will be directly involved in enabling electors to cast their vote on polling day.

Positions available include:

  • Polling Place Manager (PPM)
  • Assistant Polling Place Manager (APPM)
  • Declaration Issuing Officer (DIO)
  • Ordinary Issuing Officer (OIO)
  • Remote / Mobile Officer
  • Returning Officer Assistant (ROA)
  • General Assistant

Duties include:

  • Polling place set-up
  • Issue ballot papers to electors
  • Mark electors' names on the electoral roll
  • Counting ordinary votes
  • Answer enquiries from electors
  • Prepare and Issue Absent and Provisional forms and ballot papers

 
SELECTION CRITERIA
: There are questions listed in the application form that are relevant to this type of employment. Please complete these questions to ensure that you can be assessed according to your skills and experience. Your application will then be assessed by the Returning Officer who may contact you in January 2013 when vacancies are to be filled.

 
OTHER CONDITIONS
: You will need to be currently enrolled on the Western Australian Electoral roll.

Polling staff are employed on a casual, as needed basis and employment does not continue from one event to another.

Previous Polling Place staff:  For applicants who worked as Polling Place Staff at either the 2008 State General Election or the 2009 Referendum, we have pre-filled an application form for you using the details of your previous application to assist you in the application process. However to be considered for work at a polling place you need to review and submit your application by following the steps listed below:

  1. Clicking on the LOGIN link above and enter your email address and password to login. If you do not know your password, click on the “Forgotten Your Password?” link on that page and a new password will be sent to you.
  2. Click on the Current Applications tab.
  3. Click on the ‘Click Here’ to continue your application.
  4. Review each page carefully, amending answers as necessary, and clicking the Next button to progress to the next page.
  5. On the last page, read and accept the declaration before clicking the Submit button.

Your email address creates a log in and is linked to your individual employment details. This means you cannot use the same email address to register more than one person .
