Research Officer (Invasive Species Science)

Level: Specified Callings Level 1-4 $55,677 - $111,615 pa PSGOGA
Location: Bunbury (other locations may be considered)

Invasive Species Science is being developed as a new initiative within the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA) Invasive Species Program. This initiative combines the research requirements for vertebrate pest and weeds sciences within the one major project and incorporates risk assessments for plants and animals.

In this role you will lead a small team of dedicated research and technical staff in the development of this new approach for delivering science-based information for vertebrate pest and weed management in Western Australia (WA). This team has been recognised nationally and internationally in the past for substantial achievements in maintaining the high health status of WA and you will build on these past achievements and assist with the development of greater research and risk assessment capacity in this area.

The key responsibilities of the position will include leading a small research and risk assessment team, developing a Research & Development program to meet the needs identified in the Invasive Species Plan for vertebrate pests, weeds and risk assessment, developing collaborative arrangements within DAFWA and external research organisations, delivering against identified targets and outcomes of the Invasive Species Plan, developing the capacity of staff within Invasive Species Science and representing DAFWA at relevant state and national meetings and conferences

Police Clearance: An acceptable National Police Certificate (police clearance), or equivalent, is an essential pre-employment requirement. This police clearance must be obtained prior to employment at applicant's expense.

Location: Western Australia has a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, diverse landscapes and climates. The capital city, Perth, is a modern city of 1 million people situated on the bank of the beautiful Swan River. Its population enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Situated on a peninsula, Bunbury is an aquatic playground offering diverse lifestyle and recreational experiences.  The town offers an extensive array of attractions, entertainment, shopping, nightlife and dining and is approximately a 2 hour drive south of Perth. Please note: This position is permanently based in Bunbury, however consideration may be given to locating in Forrestfield for the first two (2) years of the appointment.
