Cannington Community Education Support Centre (ESC) are seeking to appoint a highly dedicated School Psychologist to join their team.
As the successful applicant you will demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be committed to achieving exceptional educational outcomes for all students in this highly multi-cultural school where inclusivity forms an essential component of the school values system. Being a highly competent candidate you will be key in providing specialist support to school staff in the areas of student behaviour, learning, and mental health and wellbeing, and the ability to collaborate with the school administration to develop evidence-based whole school improvement initiatives targeting and promoting positive teen mental health. As the School Psychologist, we will look to you to deliver parenting programs and provide leadership in the up-skilling and enhancement of staff capacity
You will demonstrate highly effective skills in situational analysis, problem conceptualisation and the identification of strengths and needs to inform decision making at the individual, group, and systemic levels, plus have a strong commitment to your own professional growth and development, and demonstrate contemporary knowledge of exemplary interventions and support for teens. Strong organisational skills and proactive self-initiative are highly desirable and will enable you to work effectively with the student services team to develop and implement individualised case management processes for educationally at-risk students.
Ideally, you will be able to undertake educational and psychological assessment and diagnosis in all areas of child and adolescent development, including:
- Psycho-educational assessment involving intellectual and ability assessment tools, clinical measurement, clinical interview and observation,
- Diagnosis requiring analysis and synthesis of multiple measures, other information and understanding of diagnostic criteria as set out in DSM-IV or ICD 10.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of developmental disabilities. Experience in engaging with students with special needs and disabilities would also be highly desirable for this position. You will also be expected to cater to the individual needs of students.
Cannington Community ESC caters for over 100 secondary aged students from Years 7 to 12. Independence, achievement and respect are our Centre's core values. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention;
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills;
- Interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Departmental personnel and interagency partners across a variety of contexts;
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (or equivalent), or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology;
or
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position).

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
