Gwoonwardu Mia was established to be a common meeting place for the five language groups of the Gascoyne Region, celebrate Aboriginal culture, be a significant tourism attraction and provide quality employment opportunities for Aboriginal people. After an extended period of closure, from the 15 July 2019, the Western Australian Museum has undertaken to manage Gwoonwardu Mia and reopen the Cultural Centre.
The Western Australian Museum will work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities in the Gascoyne to achieve a financially and culturally sustainable Cultural Centre which maximises its business potential and is also the recipient of ongoing state support.

Location
This position is located in Carnarvon which lies at the mouth of the Gascoyne River on the Indian Ocean between Shark Bay and Ningaloo Reef, approximately 900 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. Carnarvon is a service town with links to other towns in the Gascoyne Region.
About the Role
The Administrative Assistant provides administrative and secretarial services to the Regional Manager Business and Strategy and Operations Manager Engagement and Events and staff in Gwoonwardu Mia, which includes basic financial and human resources, administrative processing, diary coordination and records management.
This position is also responsible for assisting with the coordination of booking and promoting the conference rooms and performance spaces that Gwoonwardu Mia offers for hire. The position assists the Operations Manager to ensure the venues operate compliantly with health, safety and statutory regulations, and internal policies, and that procedures are followed at all times.
Conditions
This is a full time, fixed term vacancy, for a period of 24 months, with a possibility of extension. There will also be a Pool running for a period of 24 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable will be placed into a pool where appointments may be considered for similar vacancies for full-time, part-time, casual, fixed term or permanency.

A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.
Eligibility
To be suitable for this role you must possess the following prior to appointment:
- Be of Aboriginal descent under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
- Hold or obtain a current (within 6 months) National Police Certificate (Note: A criminal record does not necessarily disqualify).
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than two (2) A4 pages in total.
- Demonstrate experience in the range of administrative activities in a dynamic office environment including familiarity with a range of administrative IT systems.
- Demonstrate experience managing competing priorities while working to deadlines.
- Demonstrate good customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
