ABOUT SECURE CARE
The Kath French Secure Care Centre (KFSCC) in Stoneville is a planned, short-term intensive intervention for children who are at extreme risk and where existing services cannot manage the risk. The Department’s secure care practice model is consistent with recognised therapeutic models of intervention, involving admission to a secure facility to stabilise and keep children safe while developing a suitable plan to address his or her needs in readiness for a return to the community.

THE ROLE
We are looking for experienced individuals to join our team as Secure Care Officers. Secure Care Officers are employed to care for the children, working therapeutically in a coordinated team approach. Secure Care Officers engage with the children and assist them to work within the individual programme developed for each child. Practice is guided by a number of Theories including Trauma, Attachment, Systems and Developmental.
The care of the children is guided by a trauma informed, Therapeutic framework and incorporates the Sanctuary Model and principles. The length of stay, and regularity of planning meetings is governed by Legislation, and all staff are required to be aware of the legislative responsibilities and expectations.
Secure Care Officers receive training that assists them to understand the effects of trauma and abuse on brain development that results in challenging and confrontational behaviour. Training includes Therapeutic Crisis Intervention which provides knowledge and strategies to avoid behavioural escalations, as well as the capacity to take physical control of children as an ultimate safety measure.

THE VACANCY
This is an open pool recruitment process for casual and full time fixed term opportunities. If you are suitable for this position you will be placed in a Pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies across the Department of Communities.
As this is an open pool you can apply at any time and interviews will be conducted on a regular basis.
The next round of assessments started 3pm (AWST) 19 January 2021. You will be advised of the outcome in due course, where you can reapply should you be unsuccessful.
Please note that casual employees work on an irregular basis with no set hours and no expectation of ongoing work. A casual loading of 25% is applied to the standard hourly rate in lieu of leave entitlements.
