About the role
Youth Justice Services is a multi-disciplinary team working to provide an evidence-based and responsive service to young people and their families when they come into contact with the youth justice system. It aims to reduce antisocial behaviour, strengthen interagency partnerships and prevent likelihood of further escalation through the youth justice system.
The role of the Clinical Counselling Forensic Psychologist is primarily the provision of psychological services to:
- Young offenders in custody and in the community.
- Families of young offenders and
- Staff working with young offenders and their families
About you
Two years post graduate Masters Degree in Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychology or approved equivalent.
Eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registrar or Endorsement in the area of practice.
Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
Current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position

Psychological Assessment:
The ability to administer a variety of psychological test and assessment tools in a forensic context, and to incorporate the results from these into reports to assist in the case management of young people who are at risk of offending as requested by appropriate bodies.
Psychological Intervention:
The ability to use psychological expertise in order to implement individual, group and systems interventions designed to address issues of offending behaviour among a youth population. Must have an understanding of behavioural intervention; individual, family and system’s intervention; and abnormal behaviour.
Any remaining work related requirements as listed in the JDF will be assessed during the selection process

Pool Recruitment
The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. When part of a pool you may be offered a permanent or temporary position, however an appointment is not guaranteed.
This pool will be open for a period of 24 months from the date of first appointment. Permanent and fixed-term full-time/part-time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise.
