Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a highly motivated and reliable Cleaner in Charge (CIC) to join their team.
The CIC is responsible for the management of cleaning staff, including relief, purchasing and stocktake of cleaning resources, and the maintenance of cleaning equipment. They will maintain the school environment, accordance with Department procedures, and undertaking cleaning of allocated internal and external areas.
As CIC you would be responsible for the locking and unlocking of the school, including setting the security alarm system, working a split shift - before school hours and after school hours. In addition, you carry out internal and external cleaning duties as required. Additionally, you will be required to coordinate and participate in vacation cleaning duties, which may include the stripping and sealing of vinyl and timber floors, window cleaning, shampooing of carpets, pressure cleaning of verandahs and undercover areas, and other such duties as required.
The CIC will liaise with the Manager Corporate Services on all cleaning matters and provide on the job induction training for new cleaning staff and other staff training as required and ensure all leave for the cleaners is submitted in a timely manner. In addition, The CIC will be responsible for managing staff performance of staff in accordance with the Public Sector Management Standard and Department Policy.
As a team leader the successful applicant will have good communications and interpersonal skills and be a conscientious, reliable worker, having knowledge of the cleaning processes and cleaning equipment. You will have pride in your work as a member of the team keeping our school environment a clean and hygienic place for our students and staff to enjoy.
Previous cleaning experience will be an advantage, as will experience in managing a team of staff. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment including operating and safety instructions would be highly advantageous. The ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets would also be essential. You will also have the ability to use cleaning equipment, including polishers, vacuum cleaners and pressure cleaners, etc.
Newton Moore SHS is an Independent Public School (IPS) located in Bunbury, a coastal city 175kms south of Perth. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to induct, coordinate and supervise the work of cleaning staff.
- Experience in school or commercial cleaning.
- Experience in the safe storage of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
