Gwynne Park Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking a dedicated Education Assistant – Special Needs – Lead to join our progressive team.
The successful applicant will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and work under limited guidance within a team situation, offering advice and expertise and collaborating with colleagues to support student engagement and achievement. We require the successful applicant to be organised, committed and have a broad range of skills and strategies to meet the needs of diverse groups of learners with disability. A visible commitment to enhancing student learning through ongoing reflective practice, development of programs and engagement in professional learning opportunities is essential.
As the Education Assistant – Special Needs – Lead, you will be highly engaged in the development of student engagement and independence through planned and explicit approaches to support their self-management and self-regulation skills. This includes involvement in the development, monitoring and review of student programs and plans. Competent use of technology is essential and demonstrated knowledge or use of positive behaviour support, escalation profiling, behaviour management planning, Applied Behaviour Analysis philosophy, monitoring student progress, maintenance of student records and timetabling is highly desirable.
Gwynne Park ESC is located on the same campus at Gwynne Park Primary School in the suburb of Brookdale. It is a purpose built school with specialist facilities, equipment, sensory and therapy rooms, bike tracks, flying fox and engagement playgrounds. We have a current enrolment of 77 children across Kindergarten to Year 6.
Our school upholds a positive behaviour support approach and Applied Behaviour Analysis principles and maintains a focus on purposeful planned early intervention to enhance independence and skills for life. Our staff develop positive partnership with colleagues, families and the community and actively contribute towards building and maintaining a productive, inclusive and progressive team learning environment.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Considerable experience as an Education Assistant (Special Needs) Level 3, including contributing to the design and implementation of documented plans.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of special education and therapy programs for students with disability; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants (Special Needs) in the development of strategies and solutions.
- Well-developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants (Special Needs) and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school level in a meaningful way.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten Students are required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate III in Education Support (or equivalent), consistent with the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care, as determined by the Principal.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
