This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2019 with possible extension and/or permanency
The Statewide Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant – Student Support in the Student Wellbeing branch.
This position will primarily be responsible for supporting processes relating to child protection. The successful applicant will be required to provide practical, accurate and timely policy advice, information and support to meet system requirements for schools regarding student support services including child protection and student wellbeing.
The ability to work collaboratively and work across a range of Statewide Services branches will be critical. All staff work within the integrated and collaborative structures of Statewide Services. As such, the successful applicant will be able to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively to contribute to the work of Statewide Services.
The Student Support Services Directorate delivers integrated, state-wide services for networks, schools and teachers that support the engagement and wellbeing of every student. Services and support delivered through the Directorate are integrated with the Teaching and Learning Services Directorate, and all other functions of Statewide Services, to support the successful outcomes for all students.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to student support services.
- Skills and experience in developing and implementing successful student programs, projects or strategies at the school, region, network and/or system level.
- Ability to provide leadership and influence change related to student support services.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and professional learning documentation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
