Southern River College is an Independent Public School seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring educator and Curriculum leader for the Humanities and Social Science Learning Area in 2019 and beyond.

Being a strong an effective leader you will work in collaboration with the Principal, Administration Team, Curriculum Leadership Team, staff, community members and key stakeholders to lead the Humanities and Social Science Learning Area and delivery of the Humanities and Social Science Curriculum across the College.
As an “inspiring” leader it will be expected that you have a holistic understanding of the Humanities and Social Science Western Australian Curriculum, be a lead and experienced teacher, knowledgeable in programing/assessment and the reporting requirements for both lower and senior school courses. You will be expected to build capacity in staff and students through strategic planning, moderation, differentiated programs specific to learners needs and an ability to use data to inform practice and strategic direction. The College offers a variety of senior school programs both ATAR and General. Experience in the delivery of Geography is desirable but not essential to this position. The College also has an extensive lower school program having formed a partnership with Chevron, offering an endorsed program as well as debating/mock trials program from Year 7 to Year 10. Expertise and a willingness to expand and contribute to these programs and other extra curriculum activities will also be taken into consideration.

The College has invested in professional learning communities such as Positive Behaviour Support (our RIVER values), STEM, ICT, EALD Visible Learning and Explicit Instruction. Contributions as a Curriculum Leader to these communities is highly important and experience in leading and contributing to whole school programs and learning communities is highly desirable.
Knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching, an ability to reflect on teacher practice and undergo performance management of staff is an important part to being a curriculum leader. Classroom observations, facilitating the development of staff and providing staff who require more support to meet expected standards are skills you will require and should be reflected in your application. An ability to manage physical and financial resources should also be demonstrated.

The College is a Year 7 to Year 12 comprehensive school catering for an array of students and their aspirations.
The College’s strategic direction incorporates our Inspire Focus Programs. Students can undertake a specialised focus in Academic, STEM Music, Soccer, Netball and vocational areas, along with the normal Western Australian Curriculum requirements.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
