The position
In this role, you manage the Gas Inspection team's activities and provide professional and technical advice to the Division management. In addition, you will contribute to Branch initiatives including the integration of planning, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
Drawing on experience in developing, implementing and managing gas inspection activities, you will coordinate and participate in highly complex and sensitive investigations of fatalities, serious injuries or major damage incidents resulting from gas, on behalf of the Department and in collaboration with other agencies as appropriate.
You will possess highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to build and sustain effective relationships and partnerships with stakeholders and respond to requests for complex regulatory or technical information.
This position is located in Cannington however, you may be required to work at other sites as required.
What do you require to successfully undertake the role?
- Permits in E, I and G gas fitting, or an equivalent certificate of competency in gas fitting, or a Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Gas Engineering (or equivalent) with eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia as a Professional Engineer.
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent experience and skills in Investigations.
- Substantial experience in all aspects of gas inspection work (or similar) including the management and planning of gas compliance functions (or similar).
- Substantial knowledge of regulatory requirements for consumer gas installations and related gas installing work, including knowledge of the gas licensing requirements.
- Substantial knowledge of gas supply systems, gas networks and their associated work practices.
- Demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour, takes responsibility, promotes accountability and motivates others.

Please note that completion of a National Police Clearance, possession of a “C” class driver’s licence and a pre-employment medical, will also form part of the selection process.
Availability of an Attraction and Retention Incentive (ARI) payment is subject to a pending/future decision of Government. Where an ARI is granted, it will be for a finite period.
