Appointment Pool
Ocean Reef Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Home Economics Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2019 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2019. Placements can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2019 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2019.
Suitable applicants will have effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage easily with students, staff and work within a team. Suitable applicants will assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources for use in classes, displays and demonstrations, and assist the teacher with clean and safe storage of items after classes and activities. Ideally candidates should have experience of handling and preparation of food and other resources and can demonstrate relevant experience to be able to meet deadlines and contribute to planning workload activities. Experience in a school or similar environment and role would be advantageous. This role is physically demanding and requires a good standard of fitness to be able to move resources and work across a large school campus.
Ocean Reef SHS is an Independent public School (IPS) located only 500 metres from the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean in the northern corridor of metropolitan Perth. Currently we have 1170 students enrolled. Ocean Reef SHS offers a thriving environment for students in Years 7 to 12. The school is highly regarded by parents from the surrounding seaside suburbs of Ocean Reef, Mullaloo, Beaumaris, Iluka, Connolly, Currambine and Heathridge.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
