Position Profile
We currently have one (1) full time 3 year fixed term appointment available with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. Part time arrangements may be considered.
We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified Senior Research Officer to lead the Tropical Irrigated Cropping Systems Research Program in the northern irrigation region, which will address the cropping rotations, soil health and fertility, weed, pest disease management and other agronomic and production challenges of that region.
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing and leading research quality of all cropping and horticulture activities on the Frank Wise Research Farm and the Ord Valley.
A high level of experience in practical and applied research together with relationship management is required to develop research priorities with stakeholders, source funding, initiate and manage research that will;
- Capture regional opportunities to drive economic growth, job creation and local capability, and
- Build new capacity within the state to deliver research, development and innovation in our northern irrigated agricultural primary industries.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- Highly developed experience in scientific research and development activities relevant to the agriculture, food and fibre industries
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to achieve innovation and change

Level Ranges: This position will suit an applicant who is operating at a nationally recognised or internationally recognised professional level. The level of appointment upon commencement will depend on qualifications, skills and/or experience.
- Specified Callings Level 4 $123,885 - $132,636 pa (Nationally recognised professional level; demonstrates outstanding productivity or achievement within area of expertise)
- Specified Callings Level 5 $140,046 - $151,940 pa (Internationally recognised professional level; achieves and sustains exceptional performance and recognition within area of expertise)
Eligibility / Other Conditions
Degree in Agricultural Science or approved equivalent (e.g. Horticultural Science, Agricultural Business Management, or Natural Resource Management).
This position is located in Kununurra.
