This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing March, 2019 with possible twelve (12) month extension and/or permanency
The Strategy and Projects Branch is seeking to appoint a dedicated and proactive individual to undertake the role of Principal Project Officer.
The Principal Project Officer will implement, coordinate and support projects, including information management projects, and reform programs being undertaken by the Branch. In consultation with key stakeholders, identify reform priorities and coordinate provision of appropriate and sustainable programs.
Within this role you will monitor, review and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and projects to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. You will undertake research to identify emerging trends and issues relating to the education sector and lead the development of policy frameworks and strategies.
As the successful applicant you will build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including with government agencies and other organisations.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level project and program management skills, including ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and networks, including experience in undertaking high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, Ministerials, briefing notes and policy.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and experience in applying strategic thinking to achieve outcomes and implement effective change management strategies to achieve educational outcomes.
- Highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
