Warwick Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a highly focused and enthusiastic individual to lead their Health and Physical Education Learning Area. In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the Health and Physical Education Head of Learning Area (HOLA) provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and creating a positive school culture. Warwick SHS is seeking a leader that can participate fully in the schools ongoing improvement agenda.
As the Health and Physical Education HOLA you would provide an active leadership role in the ongoing development and implementation of a positive and caring learning environment across the school. This will include providing leadership to promote the self-esteem of students and nurture their social and emotional well-being, facilitating problem-solving mechanisms involving student welfare and modelling exemplary classroom practice. You will undertake performance development of staff in the Health and Physical Education learning area, consult on selection of resources, manage the relevant budgets and contribute to the ongoing management and review of the school’s accountability processes. The Health and Physical Education HOLA will also play a key role in extending students’ knowledge and understanding of Health and Physical Education curriculum and the use of data to inform both teaching and leadership practice will be pivotal to this role.
Warwick SHS has approved specialist programs in Australian Rules Football and Netball and the Health and Physical Education HOLA would provide a significant leadership in the promotion, development and management of these flagship programs. The Warwick SHS Health and Physical Education department deliver a range of programs to students from Year 7 – 12. These include courses from the Australian Curriculum, WACE and VET. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
