24 Month Appointment Pool

The Disability Services and Support Branch is seeking to establish a two (2) year pool of skilled School Psychologist Consultants for appointments to permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which will arise during the 2019 and 2020 school years. Placements can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2019 and 2020 school years.

As a School Psychologist Consultant, you will be required to possess General Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Please note there have been recent changes to the Departments criteria for eligibility to be appointed as a School Psychologist and a teaching qualification is not necessarily required. (Please refer to the eligibility requirements at the bottom of this advertisement.) The position will be based at Statewide Services Centre, Padbury WA.
The Disability Services and Support branch is located within the Student Support Services Directorate and part of Statewide Services. The Student Support Services Directorate is responsible for the delivery of integrated, state-wide services for networks, schools and teachers that support the engagement and wellbeing of every student.
As a School Psychologist Consultant, within Student Support Services, you will develop and provide professional learning programs and resources to support lead school psychologists and school psychologists to build and strengthen professional practice. Your work will involve building and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships with regional personnel and other specialist teams within and external to the Department of Education with the aim of improved communication to school psychologists and principals outlining the support available for students.
Staff working within the Student Support Services Directorate work as a collaborative integrated team on a range of priorities as they arise. As such, applicants should be flexible, able to work both collaboratively and independently and able to contribute to the work of the Directorate across a range of areas.
The goals of the branch are:
- all students with disability have access to a program aligned with their learning needs
- all students with disability are able to participate in the full school experience
- all students with disability transition into meaningful post school options
- there are demonstrable improvements in standards of achievement for students with disability
- parents/families and other stakeholders have high levels of satisfaction with the education provided for students with disability.
As a member of the team School Psychologist Consultants, you will be working in consultation with your Disability Services and Support colleagues to provide seamless and timely response to schools in the areas of disability diagnosis, and the efficient allocation of Individual Disability Allocation. You will also provide professional guidance about appropriate assessment and reporting of complex cases when comorbidity may be present.
Disability Service and Support is exploring contemporary funding arrangements for students with disability to ensure consistency between context and streamlining the IDA. The Branch is committed to ensuring funding and services are delivered efficiently to schools.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- High-level knowledge and experience in providing specialist consultation, evidence based assessment and interventions within an organisational change model.
- Highly developed skills in applying specialist knowledge and the development and evaluation of contemporary approaches and interventions.
- High-level ability to communicate and clarify complex concepts, provide feedback and critical evaluation of the management of complex and challenging issues.
- High-level strategic leadership skills and ability to build capacity, influence systemic policy and undertake interventions and prevention programs and assist schools to formulate and implement responses to address identified outcomes.
- High-level experience in coordinating specialised support and in providing appropriate professional learning to a variety of audiences.
- High-level oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team and with a range of internal and external clients.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology; or
- have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position)
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
