Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is a Lead Language school and we are establishing a pool of Language Teachers, for appointments to permanent and fixed term, fulltime and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2019 school year.

As a Lead Language school we are working with primary schools within our network to encourage and support the development of languages. Please note that in addition to Newton Moore SHS, teachers may be required to work at various primary school within our network of local area primary schools.
Suitable applicants for these positions will be expert, passionate teachers of either Indonesian or Japanese, with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, and will teach and develop languages in schools in the greater Bunbury area.
Our school’s vision for languages is to provide vibrant and inclusive learning environments that encourage passion and interest in additional cultures. We aim to work collaboratively as Primary and Senior High schools to build a seamless approach to learning language other than English, and to ensure that every child has the opportunity to choose languages that interest them. Although a current focus is on Japanese and Indonesian, we encourage teachers of any Language other than English to apply for placement into the pool.
Every teacher at Newton Moore SHS and our local intake schools has a role in implementing our vision of strong and respectful relationships and effective curriculum delivery. Working collaboratively across school sites, you will embed a culture of professionalism, and a focus on engagement of students in Languages. Using your effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.
As a suitable applicant you should have experience in teaching Languages in your specialist language area. You ideally should also possess a sound understanding of the developmental needs of students at all phases of the Western Australian Curriculum and be skilled in differentiating the curriculum to meet the academic needs of all language students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both in a primary and secondary team environment is required, as well as a willingness to engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks.
As a teacher of languages you will participate as an integral member of the teaching teams and be responsible for supporting the collaborative approach to curriculum planning, delivering learning programs to students according to the needs of the school community and modelling exemplary classroom practice. You will assist in the development and implementation of innovative classroom practices, and you will be relationship focused to assist with the pastoral care of students.
We are seeking applicants who constantly strive to improve standards and are open to professional development opportunities. It is highly desirable that you can utilise learning technologies for both administrative and educational purposes. It is also essential that you are flexible and can work across both primary and second environments.
If appointed, you will be based mainly at Newton Moore SHS, will be located in Bunbury, a coastal city 175kms south of Perth. The school has a strong commitment to offering innovative and best practice educational programs. The school is presently a Lead Language School and has the brief to support other schools implement strong language based school programs.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
